Cracking the Dress Code: Revealing Women in Clothes 1920-1945

5x5 invitation created for Perrie Wilkof's senior thesis presentation at Hampshire College, Massachussets, using found vintage images.

McSweeney's Quarterly Issue 33: The San Francisco Panorama

McSweeney's Quarterly created its 33rd issue as a one-time only, full-color broadsheet newspaper. I worked on various aspects of the paper during its production period, including creating several infographics to accompany articles in the newspaper and magazine sections.

The Panorama Explains: The Crisis in Congo

This infographic was created as a stand-alone full-page graphic, without an accompanying article, and was intended to gather in one place some of the most important facts and overlooked or misunderstood elements of the ongoing crisis in Congo. I worked with Colin Thomas-Jensen of the Enough Project in Washington D.C. to determine what information should be on the page, and what could be effectively presented in graphics.

Centralia: Anatomy of a Mine Fire

This graphic accompanied an article on underground mine fires in Centralia, Pennsylvania. It was created using descriptive interviews and diagrams provided by the author, as well as reference illustrations found through further research.

Heap Leaching Diagram

This graphic was created to explain the process of heap leaching in the production of gold, to accompany an article on gold mining. It was designed based on descriptions in the article's text and reference illustrations found through further research.

Market Street Diagram

The draft at the left was made to accompany an article on the density of vacant buildings and storefronts on Market Street in downtown San Francisco. Although the article did not end up running in the Panorama, I worked with author Susie Cagle to update the map for the article's publication on Spot.Us, an open source community reporting website. The map became an interactive graphic, in which users can click on the colored map lots to read about the properties.
